2003 Beanie Festival Round Up
The 2003 Alice Springs Beanie Festival
What the punter's said

The 2003 Alice Springs Beanie Festival was a wonderful long weekend, with two major exhibition areas, an exciting program of workshops, spinning demonstrations, weaving workshops, a cafe, and entertainment for family and friends.

'The Flashest Beanies in Australia' Exhibition was displayed in the Sitzler Gallery at the Araluen Centre for Arts and Entertainment, Alice Springs.
For the first time in history the beloved beanie competition beanies were exhibited in the Araluen Galleries next door to the other art greats. Move over Albert Namatjira! Move over Sydney Nolan! We think we had more traffic in our gallery.

About the Alice Springs Beanie Festival in 2003

The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is a non- profit community group, with ties to many local organisations in the Northern Territory. All income derived from the Festival is used to fund the Festival events, and fund fibre workshops in remote communities and in Alice Springs. The Alice Springs Beanie Festival is held each year at the Araluen Cultural Precinct in Alice Springs.

Our aims include promoting the beanie as a unique regional art form. In particular we aim to promote indigenous textiles from Central Australia. We also aim to have a lot of fun and teach people about the joys of crochet and knitting and other hand skills.
