Beanies, Baskets and Bushtucker Workshop

Interested in Aboriginal culture? Come and meet some Aboriginal artists in person! Relax around the campfire, or in the cool of the shade as you learn a new craft. If you want an authentic experience in the central desert, this tour is for you. Beanies, Baskets and Bushtucker runs most of the year.

In the gorgeous precinct of the Desert Park, surrounded by pristine bush, relax and have fun with our tutors. Our site is overlooked by the dramatic sweep of Mt Giles and has all amenities close at hand. The artists will share their skills and knowledge over a billy of tea. Learn to crochet mukata (beanies) or weave tjanpi (grass) baskets while sharing stories and bushtucker

Our tutors are Pitjantjatjara women who have been involved with theTjanpi Desert Weavers and our festival as both artists and teachers for many years. Once you have found the rhythm of your craft there will be opportunity to hear and share some of the women's stories, language and culture.

The workshops are being held at the gorgeous Alice Springs Desert Park.
Conference and group enquiries also welcomed.

Please support this very important employment project between the Alice Springs Beanie Festival and the Tjanpi Desert Weavers.
