Festival Workshops on the long weekend

There are several streams to the Beanie Festival Workshop Program

  • Informal Drop in Workshops around the Festival site
  • Tjanpi Desert Weavers Workshop 
  • Central Craft Workshops held at their nearby workshop building, within the festival precinct

Tjanpi Desert Weavers Workshops

Create a basket with Aboriginal Women from Central and Western Desert regions. The artists love to teach these techniques, so get in quick!
Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 June 10am-12pm, Araluen Galleries Verandah
$55 per person per session. Bookings are open.

Central Craft Workshops

An amazing and inspiring array of fabulous textile workshops. Treat yourself and learn a new skill. Wet felting, needle felting, knitting, crochet, beading, dying, weaving, print making and wearable art.

Drop-in Festival Workshops

Textile workshops are run in the foyer with lots of fun to choose from, needle felting, wet felting, crochet, knitting, weaving, spinning. (Costs $10-$15 materials provided) Workshops run Saturday, Sunday, Monday 10am-5pm

Felt a beanie:

Sit with local Indigenous Women and learn to felt a beanie full of stories. Sat 25 Sun 26 June 10am - 5pm

Drop in anytime. No bookings required $15

Free Festival Workshops

Learn to crochet your own beanie (wool and hooks on sale) Saturday & Sunday, 2.00pm on the Araluen Verandah. No bookings necessary.

Children’s Activities

Free activities for children of all ages to learn to explore yarns through traditional techniques. Drop in to the fun!

Demonstrations

Enjoy free demonstrations of traditional Anangu spinning and other Aboriginal textiles.

Bush Medicines Akeyulerre

Traditional Medicines made by local Arrernte elder women using traditional methods. Sit with local Arrernte women and learn how to make these traditional medicines or purchase some to take home and use for your ailments.
